LINDA PIATT, Mosaic Founder and CEO
Linda Piatt founded Mosaic Chamber Music in 2023 with the belief that chamber music has the power to transform both musicians and communities through collaboration, mentorship, and artistic excellence.
Her vision for Mosaic reflects a lifelong commitment to creating inspiring educational experiences that nurture confident, thoughtful young artists while fostering accessibility and connection through music.
A passionate performer, educator, and event director, Linda has enjoyed a performing career spanning more than 25 years. She currently performs with the San Diego Symphony, California Chamber Orchestra, Classics 4 Kids Philharmonic, and the Hutchins Consort.
Linda has also appeared with Pacific Symphony, American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet, and has performed alongside renowned artists including Joshua Bell, Hilary Hahn, Gil Shaham, Itzhak Perlman, and Yo-Yo Ma. Linda holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Minnesota and has also studied performance psychology with the legendary Dr. Don Greene and Dr. Noa Kageyama.
JULIA PAUTZ, Board Member
Hailed as “a genuine virtuoso” by the Dallas Morning News, Julia Pautz has been a member of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra since 2010. A native of the tiny town of Blanco Texas, Ms. Pautz was a National Merit Scholar, and she earned a Bachelor of Music degree with honors from the Cleveland Institute of Music, a Master of Music degree with honors from the University of Southern California and a professional studies certificate from The Colburn School. She was a student of Linda Cerone and renowned violin pedagogue Robert Lipsett.
Following her studies, Ms. Pautz joined the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. In Texas she served on faculty of the preparatory department at Texas Christian University and now maintains a private teaching studio near La Jolla.
An enthusiastic chamber musician, Ms. Pautz co-founded the non-profit Texas-based Hall Ensemble. She co-founded and serves as an artistic advisor for the chamber music series Blanco Performing Arts, based in her hometown. Locally she now performs with other SDSO members in the Artonic Quartet, with whom during the pandemic she started Backyard Beethoven, a series of concerts bringing chamber music to outdoor spaces in San Diego.
ALICE DAER, PhD, Board Member
Dr. Daer joins the Mosaic Board after her daughter Nina started participating as a violist in the Phoenix-based Tetra Chamber Music program.
A native of Overland Park, Kansas, Dr. Daer came to Phoenix’s East Valley to join the faculty at ASU in 2008 as a digital literacies scholar in the English department.
After leaving ASU in 2015, Dr. Daer worked in digital marketing and user experience research, forming her company Quick Brown Fox Consulting in 2018. Since then, she has helped many technology companies teach their teams to write up their research more effectively, assisting them in seeing the narratives in their data sets and communicating those stories to stakeholders.
Dr. Daer especially loves seeing how chamber music allows students to learn all the same things they would learn through sports: teamwork, celebrating collaborative achievements, communicating and listening to feedback, offering critique with diplomacy, finding ways to read subtle, nonverbal communication, and conditioning the body to endure lengthy practices. Watching students learn these lessons through music is a privilege few of us get to have, and Dr. Daer cherishes her ability to help Mosaic share that experience with as many willing participants as possible.
